Customer Spotlight: Stefan’s Head

Today we are behind the box with Michael Kushner, co-founder and creative director of Stefan's Head, a new company that sells exclusively exclusive t-shirts and garments exclusively through text messages. The digits are 646.759.0904 if you want with Stefan, the 'distributor of things' that will be your SMS message when the new threads are in play.

How it started?

My co-founder Trey and I have known each other since we were in
kindergarten, and we have always wanted to start a company. Trey and I are
both passionate about technology and fashion and wanted to start a garment
brand that was different than any other out there today.

Before Stefan's Head your team originally launched a different company, Goods of Record. At what point did you know it was time to turn and focus 100% on Stefan's Head?
We really liked working on record products but found it to be quite
It is difficult to maintain a consistent brand when working with so many
different manufacturers. We wanted to have our hands on everything from the
packaging for the product itself, and now we have to do everything.

Who is Stefan and what is the story behind the name?

Stefan is a real guy we met when we were at a party in Los Angeles. He is cute
the coolest person we've ever met, and it's all based on him.

How are products designed and how are they made? and Use Custom Boxes.
I've been designing them at home so far, but we're starting to work
with photographers for prints. We like photographers who
polarizing, authentic, crude and risqué.

What was the motivation behind focusing on limited-run fashion products?
No one likes to see someone rock a shirt they are wearing. People
They want unique and one-of-a-kind. Our model lends itself well to
runs, and forces us to keep the brand fresh.

You use many very provocative images to promote the Stefan's Head brand. How does this kind of art direction help you establish your brand identity and attract potential customers? Did you experiment with other aesthetic concepts before solving this?

It is true. We were very lucky to land a photographer named Blaise
Cepis who did our last photo shoot. US
we love its style and it certainly helps us to establish a brand identity, and
We wanted to make sure we were not like anything else you could get in
Urban Outfitters or Gap. We also believe that there is a fine line between
trashy / exploitative and artful / provocative. We hope that we are in the
last side As we move forward we experiment with others
photographers who have different styles, but always bold.

So you are sending these products to customers every month and packaging is definitely an important aspect of Stefan's Head experience. What was the process and inspiration behind the last box you made?
We want the experience to feel that it is doing something illegal and
text messages with a distributor. We wanted to design the boxes to reflect that.

What's in store for Stefan's Head?

We want Stefan to become the coolest shirt distributor in the world and
work with the most talented creatives. Once we have that nailed then we
can move in other types of tissues and eventually an entire line. That,
and some more photos with as many provocative images as we can
do
